My Hair Journey: From Shaved to Strong at 48
This is my story. Not a trend. Not a gimmick. Just real life and real lessons.
I spent four years growing my hair. Four years of patience, trims, protective styles, and watching it slowly get longer. Then one day, I saw a short style and decided that was it. I wanted short hair.
Just like that.
So I bleached it blonde. I cut it off. I went bold.
At first, I loved it. It felt fresh and different. But about a week later, I realized something was off. The roots were not blending the same. The color would not go back to what it was before. My hair felt different. Weaker. And instead of embracing the short blonde look, I started covering it with wigs.
I was chasing the look, not protecting the health.
As it began to grow back, I added more color. Then highlights. Then I decided to get a Brazilian treatment. I should have known better. I know hair. But I was into the look.
And my hair came off.
So at 48 years old, I shaved my head completely. Clean slate.
That was my reset moment.
This time I told myself I would build from the foundation up. I knew my hair at 48 was not the same as it was when I was 25. My strength was different. My density was different. My scalp was drier.
So I started with my scalp.
I used Hair Rehab Oil because my scalp was dry and needed something thicker. I oiled it once a week, sometimes twice. Once my hair grew past the bald stage, I exfoliated my scalp every month or every other month to remove buildup and keep circulation going.
But I treated my strands differently.
My strands are high porosity. They lose moisture fast. So I used Rose Play Oil on my hair, not my scalp. That oil sealed my strands without weighing them down. Then I layered the Protective Hydrating Moisturizer to lock everything in.
That was when I truly understood that your scalp and your strands can need two different things.
As my hair continued to grow, I noticed something else. The crown area was not growing back the same. It was shorter. Sometimes it felt like it was not growing at all.
So I added GPS Hair Vitamins with biotin and iron. I focused on strengthening from the inside. Within months, I saw a difference. My crown filled in. My nails became stronger. My hair felt stronger overall.
Now it has been one year and four months.
Here is what I did consistently:
I used Clean Baby Clean shampoo once a month to reset my hair without stripping it.
I oiled my scalp weekly with Hair Rehab Oil.
I used Rose Play Oil on my strands twice a week.
I layered the Protective Hydrating Moisturizer.
I wore protective styles.
I limited heat.
Now I finally have enough hair to braid with extensions again. My curls are fuller. My length is coming back. But more than anything, my hair is healthier.
What I learned is simple.
Hair is not a gimmick.
Hair takes time.
Hair needs a foundation.
If you want growth, start with your scalp. Know your porosity. Treat your strands intentionally. Be careful with heat. And most importantly, be consistent.
At 48, I am not chasing the look anymore. I am protecting the health.
Protect. Hydrate. Grow.
And this time, I am doing it right.
